Year two of the Jeff Lebby era has arrived and the Mississippi State coach is back to work.

After a disappointing first season, the coach and his staff are doing what they can to get things back on track in Starkville. The players on the field will be the difference for State this season if they are to make a return and we’re going to discuss every single one of them over the course of the next few months.

As we do every year, we’re counting down 100 days until State’s first game at Southern Miss in Hattiesburg on August 30. Over this period of time, we’ll breakdown every scholarship player on the roster, look back at great moments in MSU history and even talk about legends that have come before the current Bulldogs.

Today, we look at a senior lineman looking to finish his Bulldog career a two-year starter.

75 Days: No. 75, Senior OG Jacoby Jackson

A native of Dallas, Jackson has seen big-time football his entire career.

The Mansfield Summit High School alum saw it first hand in Texas High School football and now he’s playing inside the SEC. An All-State performer on the line, Jackson had the attention of teams all around the country with home state squads Texas and Texas Tech being at the front with Baylor and TCU. He also had offers from Ole Miss, State, Florida State, Oklahoma State and many others.

The Red Raiders would be the choice and Jackson got his first action as a true freshman in 2021 when he played in two games and redshirted. Jackson played in 12 of the 13 games the next year and he had starts in the last five games of the season. He would get eight starts in 13 games as a sophomore in 2023, but Jackson decided to enter the portal after the season.

Jackson chose State over Texas A&M shortly after and he would enter the mix immediately with the Bulldogs.

Lebby needed a whole new offensive front when he came to Starkville and four of the five starters would come from the portal. Jackson started at left guard for State and drew the first call in 11 of the 12 games that he played.

With a new offensive line coach in the boat in Phil Loadholt, even more competition has come this offseason. The line will have fierce battles in training camp as the coach went to the portal and grabbed several linemen in the spring. Jackson will have his handful with some of those players and the ones currently on campus, but he’ll be at the front of the line to try and fight them off.
