A couple of Mississippi products will be looking for new homes when the transfer portal opens next month.
Redshirt freshman LB Fatt Forrest and sophomore DE Joseph Head both announced on Friday night that they planned to enter the portal.
After three years at State, Head will be looking for a new spot for his final two seasons. The Lexington, Miss., native played in 23 games in three years with 16 tackles, 1.5 TFL and 0.5 sack. This season, he had six tackles.
“First, I thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to play the game I love, and family for their constant support,” Head released in a statement. “I’m grateful to MSU , the coaches, teammates and the staff for unforgettable memories and growth. I will enter the transfer portal with two years remaining, excited for what’s next.”
Head was a standout at Holmes County Central where he had 89 tackles, 13.0 TFL and 12.0 sacks his junior season and another 70 tackles, 21.0 TFL, 10.0 sacks and 17 quarterback hurries as a senior. He was considered the No. 15 player in the state in the class of 2023 and picked the Bulldogs over offers from the instate schools Ole Miss and Southern Miss.
The Winona LB Forrest leaves Starkville after two years and 15 games of action. Most of that action was spent on special teams for the Bulldogs as Forrest was beginning to get his feet wet this season playing in all 12 contests.

“I appreciate the chance to play at Mississippi State together with my coaches and staff and all my teammates who helped me develop our team bond,” Forrest said in a statement. “The opportunity to represent this program has brought me great privilege. I will enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility left. I am eager to start my new journey because I am curious about what the future holds.”
Forrest was a three-star recruit out of Winona in the 2024 class and initially committed to the Bulldogs during his junior year before flipping to Ole Miss. He would ultimately rejoin the State class and signed with the Bulldogs. He finished the rankings as the No. 24 player in the state of Mississippi and helped his Tigers to the first state title in school history and a 15-0 mark.
Along with Forrest, State has brothers Tyler Lockhart and TJ Lockart on the roster from that Winona team. Tyler was named Freshman All-SEC this season at his position.
State has 15 players currently set to enter the portal on January 2 when it officially opens for business. The most notable to this point are safeties Tony Mitchell and Stonka Burnside and WR Jordan Mosley.
