Initial SEC Availability report includes suspension for Mississippi State running back
Heading into the Battle for the Golden Egg on Friday, Mississippi State is set to be without its veteran running back for the first half.
The SEC Availability Report revealed that senior Davon Booth will be suspended for the first two quarters against Ole Miss. A source told Maroon and White Daily that Booth’s suspension is a disciplinary action from head coach Jeff Lebby but he will be available for the second half.
During Booth’s senior season, he has led the Bulldogs with 133 carries and seven touchdowns while being just behind Fluff Bothwell with 547 yards on the ground. Booth has also been a factor out of the backfield as a receiver and has 14 catches for 158 yards and two more scores.
Booth and Bothwell have shared carries this season but Bothwell has moved into the starting role when healthy. The sophomore transfer from South Alabama has 111 carries and leads the squad with 559 yards while scoring six times. Bothwell missed two games in the middle of SEC play after going down with an injury against Texas A&M but has just 27 carries in the last three games for 95 yards and zero touchdowns.

Also revealed on the Availability Report was that junior LB Isaac Smith is questionable for the Egg Bowl. Smith missed the Missouri game with a foot injury but has been trending towards playing on Friday. Last year’s SEC leader in tackles, Smith has 51 this year with an interception and a sack.
State (5-6, 1-6 SEC) enters the contest with the Rebels looking to get bowl eligible for the first time since 2022. The Bulldogs can also win the Golden Egg trophy for the first time since that season and hinder rival Ole Miss’ playoff chances with a victory.
Game time on Friday is set for 11 a.m. and can be seen on ABC.
