On Wednesday Mississippi State’s basketball program saw its first transfer portal entry. Junior guard Trey Fort officially entered the transfer portal and he will have one season of eligibility remaining.

The Jackson native started the first seven games of the season for the Bulldogs and scored a season-high 21 points against Arizona State in his State debut and State’s season opener. On the season, Fort averaged 5 points and 1.8 rebounds while collecting nine assists and four steals.

This past season Fort shot 38.2% from the field, 34.9% from 3 point territory and 64.3% from the foul line. Fort began his college career at Tennessee-Martin, where he redshirted, before playing at Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Howard (Texas) College.

At Howard College, Fort ranked fourth nationally with 24.9 points a game and also averaged 5.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists a game. Also that season he earned NJCAA second-team All-American honors and was the MVP of the NJCAA All-star game.

From the 2023-24 roster, Mississippi State has to replace centers Tolu Smith and Jimmy Bell, wing DJ Jeffries and point guard Rams Davis. In November the Bulldogs signed 2024 point guard prospect Dellquan Warren, who will enroll at Mississippi State this coming summer.

More portal entries are expected for Mississippi State in the coming days and weeks, and the remainder of the 2024-25 roster spots are expected to be filled by transfers.
