Mississippi State Head Coach Chris Jans Reacts To Ncaa Tournament Invitation

Mississippi State’s offseason and transfer portal season got off to an impressive start Friday, to say the least. Per sources, former Penn State transfer and sophomore point guard Kanye Clary has committed to Mississippi State and given his intentions to transfer to Mississippi State.

Clary took an official visit to Mississippi State on Thursday before concluding that visit Friday afternoon.

With his decision, the Virginia Beach, Va., native becomes the first transfer portal addition for head coach Chris Jans and his staff in this offseason. Paired up with all-SEC freshman Josh Hubbard next season, the Bulldogs stand to have one of the top backcourts in the league. Per On3 transfer rankings, Clary is rated as the No. 29 overall transfer prospect and the No. 6 point guard prospect in this cycle.

Last season before leaving Penn State on February 19th, the 5-foot-11 and 200-pound Clary averaged 16.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists a game.

Also last season, Clary shot 46.2% from the floor, 37.7% from the 3 point arc and 81.1% from the foul line. Of his 23 games played last year, the southpaw shooter scored 20 or more points in 10 games, including a career-best 29 point effort against Rider last December. Inside Big 10 play, Clary also scored 27 against Wisconsin and also scored 25 points against both Northwestern and Maryland along with a 21-point effort against Michigan State.

So far this week, Mississippi State’s 2024-25 roster has gotten a little clearer but obviously, there’s still several more spots to fill. The Bulldogs have to replace outgoing seniors Tolu Smith, Jimmy Bell, Rams Davis and DJ Jeffries while junior guard Trey Fort and junior forward Jaquan Scott both entered the transfer portal earlier this week.

Also this week, sophomore wing Shawn Jones announced his intentions on social media that he is returning to State for the 2024-25 season. Freshman guard Martavious Russell, freshman center Gai Chol and freshman wing Adrian Myers are also expected to return. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are still awaiting the decisions of senior forward Cameron Matthews, senior guard Shakeel Moore and sophomore forward KeShawn Murphy.
