Following a standout year three on the mound as a Mississippi State starter, Evan Siary has been selected in the 2025 MLB Draft.

The Texas Rangers took Siary on Monday in the eighth round of the draft. Like most players drafted inside the top 10 rounds, he is expected to sign with the Rangers by the July 28 deadline.

Siary earned the selection based on a year of massive improvement under pitching coach Justin Parker. The right hander had an ERA over 7.00 runs in each of his first two seasons with the Diamond Dawgs but was a major factor in 2025.

Becoming a regular in the weekend rotation, Siary pitched in 15 games with 10 starts. He managed a 4.00 ERA as he hit career highs in innings (54.0) and strikeouts (72) and walked just 15 batters while holding opponents to a career-low .220 batting average.

Siary’s biggest moment came against rival Ole Miss in game two of the series in Starkville. It was a career-high 8.0 innings and 15 strikeouts as Siary scattered six hits and no walks in a shutout against the Rebels. That victory set the Bulldogs up to take the series the next day.

A native of South Carolina, Siary came to Starkville for his senior season and finished his career with the Starkville Academy Volunteers playing for former Bulldog great Thomas Berkery. As a freshman at State, Siary pitched in 28.0 innings but had a 7.07 ERA in 14 appearances. That ERA jumped as a sophomore and he was at 7.48 with an 0-3 record in 21.2 innings. His junior season put him right back on the map, however, and opportunities in the league will now be available.

Siary is the second roster player taken from State as he joins his weekend starting mate Pico Kohn who was taken earlier in the day in the fourth round by the Yankees. Transfer pitcher Davion Hickson has also been drafted and was selected by the Dodgers in the fifth round.

The Bulldogs have lost two high school signees so far in SS JoJo Parker and RHP Landon Harmon.
