Diamond Dawgs add James Madison starting RHP Jackson Logar to roster

Justin Parker got back in the market for a transfer portal pitcher on Saturday as the Mississippi State pitching coach earned his third prospect of the offseason.

James Madison RHP Jackson Logar announced on X on Saturday that he is joining the State roster. Logar comes to Starkville after two seasons pitching with the Dukes. He had a 4.14 ERA in those two seasons with 37 appearances and 117.1 innings pitched.

A Medford, New Jersey native, Logar played his high school ball at Shawnee and was picked up by JMU. As a freshman, he pitched in 22 games with two starts and two saves. Logar had a 5.19 ERA in 43.1 innings and gave up 25 earned runs with 24 walks and 43 strikeouts.

Logar made a big jump this season as a sophomore as he pitched in 74.0 innings and was a full-time starter for the Dukes. He was 4-5 with a 3.53 ERA. Logar surrendered just 50 hits, in those 74.0 innings with 29 earned runs, 41 walks and he struck out 72 batters. Opponents managed just a .197 batting average against him.

His best performance of the year came against top-25 team Troy when he went 7.0 innings and gave up two hits with no runs while striking out nine batters.

The talented 6’0 hurler has a fastball that’s in the mid 90’s and has a slider as his primary swing and miss pitch that’s accumulated a 41% whiff rate according to Baseball America’s Jacob Rudner.

Logar is the third pitcher State has added out of the portal joining Virginia LHP Tomas Valincius and RHP Maddox Webb out of the Citadel. Webb committed to the Bulldogs on Friday afternoon landing Parker’s his second pitcher commit. The Bulldogs had an in with Logar with former JMU assistant Mike Roberts who was the Associate Head Coach of the Dukes but has since joined Brian O’Connor’s staff.
