Mississippi State adds All-SoCon RHP Maddox Webb from The Citadel

Mississippi State continued its transfer portal haul in baseball on Friday as the Diamond Dawgs added First-Team All-SoCon pitcher Maddox Webb.
The Citadel pitcher threw in 46 games the last two seasons with 80.0 innings of work and an ERA of 4.39. This past season, Webb earned All-Conference honors as a bullpen arm that threw 24 games and had a 4-1 record and 4.04 ERA. Webb threw 55.2 innings and earned five saves with 61 strikeouts and 34 walks.
Webb threw 2.0 scoreless innings with three strikeouts against South Carolina and gave up just one run in 3.0 innings on the road at Clemson. As a freshman, Webb was utilized as a closer for The Citadel and threw in 22 games with 24.1 innings pitched and two saves. He had a 5.18 ERA and struck out 21 batters.
The 6’2, 195-pounder marks the second-straight year that the Diamond Dawgs have landed a player from The Citadel. Last season, MIF Sawyer Reeves transferred to State for his final season of college baseball and became the Bulldogs’ starting shortstop by the middle of the season. Reeves finished the year batting .273 with 38 hits, eight doubles, two home runs and 16 RBI.

Webb is the second pitcher added to the roster from the transfer portal as he joins Virginia LHP Tomas Valincius. He joins Justin Parker’s staff that is growing into a deep and talented group for 2024. Top arms Ryan McPherson, Charlie Foster, Ben Davis and Dane Burns have already announced their returns for another season with others hopeful to return like Evan Siary.
State has now landed seven players out of the transfer portal as of Friday with Valincius joining Virginia teammates James Nunnallee, Chone James and Aidan Teel and other commitments from Illinois OF Vytas Valincius and North Carolina State MIF Ryder Woodson.
