Texas Tech bats overpower Bulldogs in winner's bracket of softball regional, 10-1

A day after delivering some big hits and advancing into the winner’s bracket in the Lubbock Regional, Mississippi State was shut down against host Texas Tech.
Red Raiders star pitcher NiJaree Canady dominated Bulldog pitching with just five hits and one run surrendered and had a two-run home run to lead the team to a 10-1 run-rule win in six frames. The win brought a measure of revenge for Canady and the Red Raiders after State won the first matchup against them in the season opener back in February.
Delainey Everett ran into a buzzsaw against the TTU offense. The home team had nine hits, five runs and one walk against Everett in 3.2 innings. Josie Marron came in behind her and didn’t find anymore success as she surrendered five hits, five runs and a walk in 1.1 innings.
The Red Raiders jumped out to an early lead in the first with two runs coming on back-to-back two-out hits. That came a half inning after State loaded the bases against Canady but couldn’t score.

TTU built the lead up to 5-0 before State could get its only run of the day in the fifth inning. Morgan Stiles drove in a run on a single up the middle to make it 5-1, but that was all for State on the day.
Canady answered back with a two-run shot in the bottom of the inning and the Red Raiders got two more runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to garner the run rule. Stiles was the only real offense in the game for the Bulldogs as she finished 3-for-3 with the lone run driven in against Canady.
State (38-17) now heads to the loser’s bracket and will have to fight out of it the next two days to advance to a Super Regional. The Bulldogs start by playing Washington on Saturday night at 6 p.m. MSU beat the Huskies 6-3 in the first matchup on Friday.
