OF Aidan Teel set to follow Brian O'Connor to Mississippi State

Brian O’Connor’s hot streak in the transfer portal continued on Saturday as the coach landed yet another former player for his new post at Mississippi State.
After grabbing three Virginia freshmen on Friday afternoon, O’Connor landed one of the Cavaliers’ best players in CF Aidan Teel, according to his Instagram. A third-team All-ACC member this season, Teel comes to Starkville after starting all 50 games for the team in centerfield and managing 59 hits, 51 runs, 20 doubles, seven home runs and 40 RBI.
The New Jersey native came to Charlottesville as a dual-position player but he missed his true freshman season in 2023 with an injury. As a redshirt freshman in 2024, Teel was on the mound. He had 20 appearances as a pitcher and was 2-2 with a 7.88 ERA with six saves. He threw 24.0 innings, gave up 27 hits, 21 runs, 16 walks and he struck out 32 batters.
The offseason brought new opportunities his way as he moved to the field full time and he would shine for O’Connor’s team this season.

Prior to his time in Charlottesville, Teel played his ball at Mahwah High School in New Jersey. He was the top RHP in the state as a senior while coming in as the No. 11 player overall in New Jersey. He graduated high school a year early.
Teel is the younger brother of former Virginia great Kyle Teel. The former Cavs catcher had 105 hits as a senior in 2023 when he batted an incredible .407 and had 25 doubles and 13 home runs. It earned him a first round selection to the Boston Red Sox, 14th overall, and he was just promoted to the Chicago White Sox on Thursday and is set to make his MLB Debut.
The younger Teel was in Starkville on the same day taking in O’Connor’s introduction to State fans at Dudy Noble Field with former teammates like LHP Tomas Valincius, OF James Nunnellee and OF/INF Chone James. All three of those have committed to the Bulldogs after their visit along with Illinois OF Vytas Valincius.
