Several week after Mississippi State was rising up the NCAA Tournament projections in women’s basketball, the Bulldogs missed out on the Big Dance when the bracket was released on Sunday.

A streak of six losses in the last seven games sent State tumbling out of the NCAA Tournament as the team dropped five of those games by double digits.

Despite being left out of the Big Dance, the Bulldogs’ season is not over. Sam Purcell’s team accepted an invite to the Inaugural Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament as a No. 2 seed. That means State will be able to host two games in the tournament. The Final Four of the tournament will take place at Hinkel Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The Bulldogs’ first round matchup will be against No. 7 seeded Georgia Tech on Thursday night.

MSU enters the tournament 21-11 on the season after winning 22 games a season ago and making it to the second round of the tournament where they lost to host Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

State had two All-SEC players despite the tough end to the regular season. Jerkaila Jordan and Jessika Carter each finished second-team All-SEC. The senior guard Jordan averaged 16.0 points and 5.9 rebounds while Carter averaged 14.7 points and 10.1 rebounds. Carter was named the Gillom trophy winner.

Game times and ticket information will be announced soon.
