Darrione Rogers, Quanirah Montague land SEC weekly honors

Mississippi State made SEC women’s basketball history on Tuesday morning.
The Bulldogs had a third-straight SEC Player of the Week honor as Darrione Rogers was selected the conference PotW. Not only was it three-straight weeks of winning the award, Rogers made it three different players that have won it. That marked the first time in SEC history that three different athletes have won it in consecutive weeks.
On top of Rogers’ selection on Tuesday, MSU had the SEC Freshman of the Week in Quanirah Montague after both put together sparkling performances against Mississippi Valley State.
“It’s culture,” coach Sam Purcell said. “When you have a bunch of dogs who get after it, iron sharpens iron and that’s what it’s about. It’s about the culture and it’s exciting so it’s a fun time to be a Bulldog.”
Rogers has started in four games this season and has made her presence known when she’s gotten her opportunities. With Debreasha Powe out with an injury last Friday night, Rogers was at her best.
The DePaul transfer played in a game-high 34 minutes and was all over the place for the Bulldogs having scored 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting and 4-of-9 from 3-point range, she had 12 rebounds and added another 10 assists for State’s first triple-double since 2000. It was the fifth time this season that Rogers has scored in double digits.
