Diamond Dawgs land talented freshman OF James Nunnallee from Virginia

Mississippi State’s starting to see some major action in the transfer portal.
According to his Instagram page, former Virginia outfielder James Nunnalee is a Bulldog. Nunnallee was one of several Virginia transfers in attendance in Starkville for Brian O’Connor’s arrival on Thursday night and he makes the call one day later. He committed simultaneously with teammates Chone James and Tomas Valincius.
The Bulldogs get a player in the outfield that was productive as a true freshman for O’Connor and the Cavaliers last season. He played in 48 games and started 40 for the Cavs as he played both corner outfield spots and spent time as a designated hitter.
Nunnallee batted .296 as a true freshman with a .407 OBP. He had 42 hits with 12 doubles, one home run and 26 RBI and he walked 18 times with just 13 strikeouts in 142 at bats. His 10.9 K rate was the best in the ACC and his three outfield assists on defense were tied for the most on the team.

Prior to his year at Virginia, Nunnallee played ball for Lightridge High School in Aldie, Va. He was on the All-Metro Team by the Washington Post and was ranked as the No. 7 player in the Commonwealth by Perfect Game.
Nunnallee is one of several former Virginia players that are set to follow O’Connor to Starkville. He is also the third transfer portal addition for a team that has had 11 players enter the portal since Monday. State has also had some good news since O’Connor’s hiring as the retention of pitching coach Justin Parker has had young freshman pitchers Dane Burns and Ryan McPherson announcing their return.
