Joseph “JoJo” Parker just kicked off what is expected to be a busy two days for Mississippi State baseball related talent.

The Purvis High School standout finished off an incredibly high school career by being draft in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft. Parker was taken eighth overall by the Toronto Blue Jays and is headed to begin his professional baseball career.

It’s no shock to those that have followed Parker’s career that he is getting the first-round opportunity. After being a longtime commitment to the State program, Parker finished out his high school career with the Tornadoes with a Class 4A state championship this past season.

Parker stands 6’2, 205 pounds and he hit .489 this season with 13 home runs, 35 RBI, 30 stolen bases and 64 runs. Parker also was a standout on the mound where he went 8-2 with a 2.77 ERA with 89 strikeouts in 55.2 innings. The 2025 Gatorade Mississippi Player of the Year was also a first-team All-American by Perfect Game and was named the Co-Mr. Baseball for the state of Mississippi by the MHSAA.

The player that Parker shared that award with just happens to have also shared his entire life to this point. JoJo’s twin brothers, Jacob, also was a star this season as he used his talent in the outfield and earned those Co-Mr. Baseball honors with his brother while also being named All-State.

Jacob is projected within the first four rounds of the draft and is expected to be taken within the next two days.

JoJo is the first State signee or player to come off the board as night one has now begun. More possibilities remain as Jacob is a major draft risk, as is East Union RHP and State commit Landon Harmon. More Bulldogs are expected to have their name called on Sunday and Monday and fans can stay locked in on Maroon and White Daily for plenty of commentary.
