Add another drafted pitcher to the resume for Justin Parker as Nate Williams has been taken in the 2025 MLB Draft.

The Chicago Cubs took the hard-throwing righty on Monday afternoon in the 12th round of the draft. Williams pitched one season with the Diamond Dawgs and was a solid piece out of the bullpen for State in 2025.

Though Williams only pitched a season, he’s been with the Bulldog program for the last three years. The Acworth, Ga., native came to Starkville after pitching two seasons with Florence-Darlington Tech Community College and arrived in Starkville in 2023.

After missing two seasons dealing with an elbow injury, Williams got his chance with the Bulldogs this season. The upper 90’s fastball made him a difficult hurler to beat in the back of the bullpen where he threw 19 appearances and 27.2 innings. Williams gave up 14 hits, 13 earned runs and 11 walks while striking out 51 batters and notching a 4.23 ERA with a save. Opponents managed just a .144 batting average against him.

Williams is the fifth pitcher that Parker has had taken in the draft from the current roster. The State pitching coach has already seen Pico Kohn, Evan Siary, Karson Ligon and Luke Dotson selected. State has also had 1B Hunter Hines drafted along with high school signees JoJo Parker and Landon Harmon and transfer pitcher Davion Hickson come off the board.
