Mississippi State's Trevion Williams adjusting to new role on defensive line

After injuries hampered the start of his Mississippi State career, rising junior Trevion Williams was able to play in 10 games last season and enjoy his first real season of getting valuable experience on the field.
Now in training camp, Williams is one of a few veterans back on the defensive line. But the Magnolia State native is playing a new role this season and shared his thoughts on that process during Friday’s interview session:
Q: With so many new guys now, what’s the competition at defensive line been like?
Williams: It’s unlimited competition. Competition pushes you to be your better self every day. You got people behind you that are competing for the same amount of playing time. So it pushes you and makes the whole room better.
Q: A lot more size this year on the defensive line compared to last year?
Williams: Yeah we added a lot more bodies, a lot more size, a lot more strength, a lot more of everything. So we are pretty good up front.

Q: You look slimmer this year and told me you were 288 pounds. How is that new role for you?
Williams: I moved out to the edge now. So I will be playing a lot more at end.
Q: How is it working with Vincent Dancy?
Williams: It’s fun. It is a change from Coach (David) Turner. Two different coaching styles but it’s still the same intensity.
Q: Is anything different this year on what you are being asked to do?
Williams: Nothing too different. It’s just different positions. It’s basically the same concepts and stuff.
Q: When you look at this year’s group, how do you feel about the defensive line depth?
Williams: I love it. I love the depth because it gives us guys more opportunity to recover, catch their breath and get fresh legs in. So I love it.
