Lehi (Utah) Skyridge three-star quarterback Kaneal Sweetwyne requested a release from his signing day paperwork that he inked to join NC State’s 2026 recruiting class, TheWolfpacker.com can confirm.

Sweetwyne committed to the Wolfpack on the first day of the early signing period Dec. 3, but will now look for a new program to join as his request is expected to be approved by NC State.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound prospect is the No. 25 signal-caller in the 2026 cycle as he ranks as the 10th-best player in the state of Utah.

Sweetwyne, a dual-threat quarterback that was also pursued by Utah, threw for 3,050 yards with 32 touchdowns and 15 interceptions during his senior season. He also added 133 carries for 907 yards with 14 touchdowns as a rusher.

In all, the signal-caller accounted for 6,149 yards with 53 touchdowns and 32 interceptions, while rushing for 1,956 yards and 26 scores on the ground during his varsity career as he emerged as Skyridge’s starting quarterback as a junior.

Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren spoke highly of the recruit during a pre-Gasparilla Bowl media availability last week.

NC State currently boasts one incoming quarterback in the form of Pfafftown (N.C.) Reagan three-star prospect Jacob Smith. The Pack is eligible to return its three scholarship signal-callers from the 2025 roster: CJ Bailey (two years of eligibility remaining), Will Wilson (three), Lex Thomas (two).
