NC State’s transfer portal class is continuing to take shape. Bowling Green transfer guard Marcus Hill committed to the Wolfpack on Thursday, TheWolfpacker.com confirmed.

The 6-foot-4 guard is NC State’s fourth transfer portal commitment of the cycle, joining forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield (Louisville) and guards Dontrez Styles (Georgetown) and Mike James (Louisville). The Pack has one spot remaining on next season’s roster.

Hill averaged 20.5 points with 5.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists on 44.4% shooting in his only season at the Division I level this past year with Bowling Green.

The Rockford, Ill., native made a trip to NC State on his only official visit and he raved about his time with coach Kevin Keatts and the staff.

“I really liked it,” Hill told TheWolfpacker.com after his visit. “It really felt like it was good vibes. The coaches had good vibes, good laughs, great conversations. It really felt like family.”

Though he is the final piece to the puzzle for next season’s NC State roster, Hill had kept an eye on the Wolfpack for a while. As a high-scoring guard, he was intrigued by what he saw from Keatts-coached teams in the past.

“I always watched them because of their guards,” Hill said. “Coach Keatts lets his guards play, so I always watched them. Once they started winning in the ACC Tournament, I watched the games more. I really like their game.”

His take on the free-flowing offense was one that any scorer would have, a positive one.

“That gives you happiness seeing that I can play freely,” Hill said. “I don’t have to look over my shoulder if I miss a shot or make a turnover. Coach Keatts would just have my back.”

Hill had the fifth-most points in a single season in Bowling Green history with 698 this past season. He logged nine consecutive 20-point games, which was the longest such streak in all of Division I. Hill paced the MAC in total points (698), field goals made (255) and total minutes (1,236) this past campaign.

Nationally, Hill ranked well too. He was 6th in the NCAA in field goals made, 14th in total points, 20th in minutes played, 24th in free throw attempts (219), 27th in points per game and 37th in free throws made (162).

Before Hill starred at Bowling Green, scoring in double figures in 31 of the Falcons’ 34 games this past year, he spent two seasons at Southern Union State Community College.

And it was there where he blossomed into a high-level scorer. Hill averaged 26.0 points, the third-best mark among all junior college players, on 49.7% shooting from the field during his sophomore year. He added 3.9 assists a game during that campaign. Hill led junior college players in field goals made (301) and total points (780).
