NC State Newsstand: Zamareya Jones receives All-American honors

Five-star NC State point guard signee Zamareya Jones received MaxPreps All-American honorable mention honors after a standout senior season. The class of 2024 superstar and McDonalds All-American put up huge numbers in her final season of prep basketball before joining the Wolfpack.

Jones scored 25.4 points per game over 31 contests as a senior with Bethel (N.C.) North Pitt High .She also grabbed 7.4 rebounds and dished out 5.3 assists per contest. Defensively, she swiped 4.2 steals and blocked 1.6 shots per game.

After committing to NC State before her senior season, she further established herself as one of the nation’s elite recruits. ESPN considers the guard the No. 17 overall recruit in the country.

MaxPreps did not include her on its 2 All-American teams but did list Jones in the honorable mention category after the 5-7 playmaker led North Pitt to a 2A North Carolina State championship. She finished the final 2 seasons of her prep career with a 56-6 overall record.

“Zamareya will add another gear to our transition game,” NC State head coach Wes Moore said in a signing day press release. “Super quick with the ball in her hands and having great court vision, she makes everyone around her better. Her three-point range along with her explosiveness to the rim creates shots for herself and her teammates. ‘Z’ is an exciting player who our fans will love watching.”

Jones scored more than 2,000 points over the course of her high school career and won the 2023 North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Year Award.
