NC State signed football coach Dave Doeren to a two-year contract extension, the program announced Friday afternoon. It will keep him in Raleigh through the 2029 season.

Doeren’s contract, which was provided to TheWolfpacker.com through a Freedom of Information Act request, increased his pay to $5.5 million a year with a $125,000 raise each season following.

The coach is entering his 12th season with the Wolfpack and he previously made just shy of $5 million per year after he signed an extension in February 2023. Doeren has the possibility of earning up to $1.325 million in bonuses, both academic and performance combined.

The extension makes Doeren the fifth-highest paid coach in the ACC, according to USA Today’s coaches salaries database. He trails Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, Florida State’s Mike Norvell, Pitt’s Pat Narduzzi and Louisville’s Jeff Brohm

Doeren is set to eclipse $6 million in the final two years of his contract, which would make him one of three ACC coaches to make that amount (should nothing change in the meantime).

Doeren’s raise comes after NC State men’s basketball coach Kevin Keatts earned a $500,000 increase through taking the Wolfpack to its first Final Four appearance since 1983. Keatts, whose contract stipulated the raise, is set to make $3.2 million next year.

“We’re all riding a great wave right now,” Doeren said at an NIL fundraising event earlier this week, “and it’s red.”

Doeren, meanwhile, holds an 81-58 record as the coach at NC State. His 81 wins are the most by any Wolfpack football coach, which he earned this past season. He led the Wolfpack to a 9-4 record in 2023, highlighted by a five-game winning streak to close the regular season.

NC State is in search of is first ACC championship victory under Doeren, and the Wolfpack brought in the sixth-best transfer portal class this offseason, according to the On3 Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

The Wolfpack will open the season against Western Carolina on Aug.29 at Carter-Finley Stadium.
