TheWolfpacker.com’s Wednesday Morning Newsstand

After spending his sixth season of eligibility playing at an All-ACC level for NC State men’s basketball, Jarkel Joiner is officially going through the NBA Draft process. He worked out for the Charlotte Hornets Wednesday.

Charlotte welcomed the electrifying Wolfpack guard to its facility alongside five other prospects. This is the latest stop in Joiner’s preparation for his professional career, which also included a standout performance at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament.

“NC State’s Jarkel Joiner locked up defensively all game, never running out of energy while dropping 19 points and playing simple, unselfish basketball in a blowout win,” ESPN’s Jonathan Givony tweeted after the guard’s first PIT game.

The day with the Hornets was his first public NBA workout.

During his lone season with the Wolfpack, the sixth-year senior averaged 17 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, while also converting 35.4 percent of his threes and 85.3 percent of his free throws. The Ole Miss transfer also earned a spot on the All-ACC second team.

Joiner was thankful for the opportunity to work out with the Hornets.

Former NC State offensive lineman Bryson Speas landed a minicamp invite from the Atlanta Falcons.

The Wolfpack offered D’antre Robinson, one of the top defensive linemen in the nation, Wednesday.

NC State extended an offer to Camron Thompson, a 6-3 freshman OL from Savannah, GA.

NC State quote of the day

This quote is from Pack men’s basketball coach Kevin Keatts discussing why transfer portal big man Mohamed Diarra will be a good fit for the program.

“I’m excited to add Mohamed to our program,” Keatts said in the press release. “He’s a very talented player with a great upside. He averaged a double-double two years ago in junior college and even though he didn’t replicate those numbers last season at Missouri, he was a valuable player on a team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

“I think Mohamed will take the next step in his development in our program and is an excellent addition to our locker room.”
