ROLESVILLE — NC State coach Dave Doeren came for the first half of Raleigh Millbrook at Rolesville (N.C.) High, which proved to be a dominant Wildcats performance.

The backdrop to the game was that Rolesville smoked Millbrook 35-0 last year, and held the Wildcats to two passing completions. Many of the same key players were back, but this time Millbrook was the team that forced its will.

Millbrook took an early 21-0 lead and went on to win 28-7 and improve to 5-0. Rolesville fell to 2-3 on the young season. The Wildcats have won over game by at least 21 points.

The game

Junior star linebacker Quinton Cypher of Millbrook, played some on offense and caught a 20-yard touchdown catch at tight end. After star junior defensive end Rashad Streets got a sack and forced fumble, Cypher snagged the ball and ran it in for a short touchdown. That set the tone for the rest of the game and Rolesville fell behind early 21-0 at halftime.

NC State targets

Cypher and Streets are two of the top recruits in the country — Rivals has Streets ranked No. 55 overall and Cypher is No. 120 in the class of 2027. Cypher is going to Alabama at Georgia today, and Streets is going to Oregon at Penn State. Cypher confirmed that NC State is solidly back in the mix after falling out this offseason. He attended the East Carolina at NC State game Aug. 28.

Rolesville has three potential targets with junior outside linebacker Jayden Broadie, junior free safety Marquis Bryant and junior wide receiver Anthony Roberts. Bryant got a nice interception in the first quarter.

Broadie, who played at Millbrook last year, started and is on the comeback trail from an early-season injury. He was offered by Auburn by Sept. 24.

Potential targets

Not many freshman play on the varsity, but Rolesville freshman Genesis Allen is in the mix at defensive tackle. He’s listed at 6-1 and 260 pounds.

Past targets

North Carolina senior commits Zavion Griffin-Haynes, a edge rusher, and outside linebacker Jayden Griffin-Haynes were both offered by NC State. Zavion Griffin-Haynes was active at the line of scrimmage.

The Tar Heels also have a verbal commitment from junior running back Amir Brown of the Rams, but NC State had never offered him. Rolesville senior wide receiver Gavin Waddell is committed to Louisville.

Coming up

The Wolfpacker will have stories on Cypher and others, plus video packages on all the key players.
