Nebraska baseball HC Will Bolt after Nebraska's series win over South Alabama

Nebraska baseball has won 10 of its last 12 games.

Despite an early hiccup which resulted in a 3-0 deficit, the Huskers (13-5) outscored Nicholls (17-6) 11-1 the rest of the way to finish the team’s second sweep of the season. Head coach Will Bolt’s group tallied 13 hits capitalized on four Colonel errors and hit .389 with runners in scoring position in the 11-4 victory.

Will Walsh had two home runs and four RBIs in his Nebraska career entering the weekend. By series end, the Leawood, Kansas, native had eight RBIs and two home runs in the final two games with Nicholls. His game-tying three-run blast in the fourth helped spark the Huskers’ dormant offense and marked the end of the line for Colonels starter Michael Quevedo.

Once Nebraska got into the Nicholls’ pen, the game was all but over.

The Huskers took the lead at 4-3 in the fourth after a Colonel error and poured it on in the sixth. Nebraska tacked on five runs on five hits opening with an RBI double from Rhett Stokes. Riley Silva plated a pair via a two RBI single, Josh Overbeek added another with a double and Josh Caron closed it out with a RBI single to make it 9-3.

Nebraska scored two more in the seventh, including a run on a second Stokes double, and remained unchallenged the rest of the way.

For the first time in his career, Stokes failed to tally three hits at Hawks Field after going 3-for-4 in each of his last five games in Lincoln. His home line features a .680 batting average, nine RBI and six doubles.

Rob Childress’ pitching staff picked up starter Ty Horn after a shaky open that saw three earned runs, three walks and lasted into the third inning. Three different Husker pitchers worked two scoreless innings of relief and recorded four strikeouts as a unit. The NU staff totaled 130 pitches to 188 for Nicholls and the Colonels did not pitch the bottom of the ninth.

No Nebraska arm appeared more than once this weekend.

Every Husker starter recorded a hit and four bats posted multi-hit showings. All four were in the bottom half of Nebraska’s order. Jackson Brockett, who entered for Horn in the third, collected his first win of the season. The series finale was the Huskers’ sixth double-digit scoring performance of the year.
