UNC Adds SC LB Jordan Avinger to Commitment List
Mid–three-star linebacker Jordan Avinger committed to North Carolina over West Virginia, he announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The decision comes just days after Avinger — a 6-foot-2, 225-pound prospect from Orangeburg-Wilkinson (S.C.) High — wrapped up an official visit to UNC. He took an official trip to Morgantown earlier this month.
“[The UNC official visit] changed my perspective on a lot of things,” Avinger told Inside Carolina on Sunday. “I can actually see myself going there. It’s four hours from my house, so it’s closer to home. And I can get developed by great coaches.”
Originally, Avinger committed to Arkansas in August after taking June official visits to Fayetteville, East Carolina, and South Florida. But he began looking around once Sam Pittman was fired. That included a trip to UNC for the Clemson game.

During that Chapel Hill visit, Avinger picked up a UNC scholarship offer. The next day, he decommitted from the Razorbacks.
Avinger becomes UNC’s fifth linebacker commitment. He joins a class already consisting of three-star Lawrence Brown, four-stars DQ Forkpa and Calvin Thomas, and mid-three-star Jayden Griffin-Haynes.
