In early August, UNC offered Dopson, a 6-foot-1, 190-pounder from Miami (Fla.) Norland High. Immediately, he looked to visit Chapel Hill, ultimately taking an official visit last month for the Richmond game.

“Visit was amazing,” Dopson told On3’s Steve Wiltfong. “What continues to excite me is that they continue to stress there’s a need for me, the fact that they graduate both starting corners and being coached by the GOAT.

”Gameday, facilities, dorms, dinner, Sunday practice, and just about every aspect.”

The Rivals Industry Ranking ranks Dopson as the No. 170 recruit and No. 21 cornerback in the nation, and the No. 24 prospect in Florida.

Shortly after receiving his UNC offer, Dopson began the process of reclassifying from the class of 2027 to 2026.

In mid-March, Dopson committed to hometown Miami over Georgia, Auburn, Penn State, Florida State, Nebraska, Texas A&M, and South Carolina.

“We’re going to use high school recruiting as a cornerstone of the program,” UNC general manager Mike Lombardi said a couple weeks ago. “We want this ’26 class to have to ultimately be two classes, so we can add some of the fill-in, some of the gaps that we had in the roster in terms of prior years.”

The Tar Heels’ 2026 recruiting class now has 37 commitments, and is ranked the No. 18 haul in the nation.
