Baltimore Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton will presumably be one of the most-watched rookies this fall in the NFL, but the former Notre Dame standout is already dealing with a few minor injury hiccups, including one which required departing a Wednesday practice prematurely.

According to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, Hamilton left the session with around 20 minutes left and headed into the locker room.

“After his best play of Wednesday’s practice, a diving pass breakup on a (Lamar) Jackson pass intended for a streaking (Isaiah) Likely, the rookie safety struggled to get up,” Zrebiec said. “Hamilton ultimately hobbled to the sideline and stayed there for several minutes, getting looked at by members of the athletic training staff. He did a series of stretches while on his back.”

Hamilton returned to the field for another play, but he pulled up and subsequently headed to the locker room while limping.

The temperature in the Baltimore area was around 95 degrees on Wednesday, so Hamilton could have just been dealing with cramping. Multiple players had issues with the heat. It was also the Ravens longest practice thus far, checking in at over two hours.

Baltimore defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald declined to comment on Hamilton’s situation following the practice, referring all questions to Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. He was, however, not available to the media on Wednesday.

Hamilton has been working through an ankle problem this summer as well, but he has yet to miss any time as a result of it. He missed the second half of Notre Dame’s 2021 season with a knee injury.

The 6-4, 210-pound safety originally out of Atlanta was the Ravens’ No. 14 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He was a two-time All-American for the Irish and a Bednarik Award finalist in 2021. The honor is given to the nation’s best defensive college football player.

Hamilton formally signed with the Ravens in June, and the four-year deal is reportedly worth a fully guaranteed $16.255 million with a singing bonus of $9.002 million and a fifth-year option. He stood out early in OTAs, and he is expected to be ready-made for the pros come this fall.

“Hamilton absolutely looks like someone who belongs on an NFL field and who is ready to make an immediate impact in this league,” said Garrett Downing, Ravens director of social media and host for video content, earlier this summer. “He moves well, and his instincts are excellent.”
