Uniontown (Pa.) Laurel Highlands class of 2023 four-star wide receiver Rodney Gallagher announced just a couple weeks ago that his commitment would come on July 4, but on Sunday, he confirmed rumors that his decision date has changed.

The 5-10, 165-pounder will now announce his commitment this upcoming Wednesday.

“After thoughtful consideration with my family, I’ve decided to move my commitment date up to May 25th which is this Wednesday,” Gallagher tweeted. “It will be at 3pm (ET) at Laurel Highlands H.S. in the gym and all the public may attend. (I) hope to see everyone there and I’m very excited to announce where my destination will be.”

Who is in the mix for Gallagher?

Gallagher previously announced a top eight schools list of Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Texas, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

He had also announced which schools he will be taking official visits to in West Virginia (June 3-5), Notre Dame (June 10-12), Oklahoma State (June 13-15) and Penn State (June 17-19).

However, it seems that he’ll only take one of those visits with his commitment date moving up by a few weeks. And there are three teams most believe as the biggest factors in his recruitment: Notre Dame, Penn State and West Virginia. Another program that has done very well in Gallagher’s recruitment is Virginia Tech.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), Penn State was the leader for Gallagher for quite some time, but West Virginia has surged in the past week. The Mountaineers now sit at 91.9 percent for Gallagher.

The On3 Consensus — a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies — has Gallagher as the No. 106 overall recruit and No. 19 wide receiver in the 2023 cycle.

He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $227k. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Gallagher’s father, Rodney Gallagher Jr., recently spoke with On3’s Blue White Illustrated, which covers Penn State athletics and recruiting. And he raved about the Fighting Irish and specifically Freeman.

“Notre Dame is all-in, man. Marcus Freeman is a stud,” the elder Gallagher said. “I don’t know what it is about him, but he’s a man with a dream. He’s on a mission and I really like his drive. We’ve really enjoyed getting to know him and the staff at Notre Dame. He wants what’s best for my son. He’s a priority there.”
