Garner (N.C.) South Garner class of 2024 interior defensive lineman and Georgia commit Nnamdi Ogboko is currently at Notre Dame for a visit, according to Blue & Gold sources. The 6-4.5, 355-pounder is on campus before the Irish’s pivotal home matchup against Ohio State.

There had been rumblings for the past couple weeks of a potential “surprise” visitor for Notre Dame, and Ogboko is it.

The massive recruit ranks as the country’s No. 909 overall prospect and No. 86 defensive lineman according to the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. On June 25, Ogboko committed to Georgia over the likes of Florida, South Carolina, Rutgers, NC State, Michigan, Boston College and a handful of others. He took officials to Georgia, Rutgers, South Carolina and Florida before committing to the Bulldogs.

Ogboko is visiting with his younger brother, Ekene, a 6-6, 270-pound offensive tackle in the 2026 class. Ekene ranks as the nation’s No. 24 overall prospect and No. 4 offensive tackle among current sophomores.

At the time of publishing, neither of the Ogboko brothers have announced an offer from the Irish, but it’s Blue & Gold’s understanding that they are both priority targets for Notre Dame.

“Nnamdi is an amazing human being first and foremost,” South Garner head coach Greg Greene previously told On3’s DawgsHQ. “He’s an extremely good student and a hard worker. He works out each morning at 5 AM and after practice in the evenings perfecting his craft.”

Notre Dame currently has four defensive line commitments, coming from Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek EDGE Cole Mullins, Charlotte (N.C.) Christian EDGE Bryce Young, Clearwater (Fla.) Academy defensive lineman Sean Sevillano and Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward EDGE Loghan Thomas. Young and Sevillano are currently on campus Saturday as well.

With its 23 commitments in the 2024 class, Notre Dame has hit is mark at each position that it planned to take earlier this year. However, Fighting Irish recruiting under head coach Marcus Freeman is aggressive. The staff likes to take late pieces in the cycle, and they identified Ogboko as a player they liked a lot and believe could be a big contributor to the team.

In looking at Georgia’s 2024 commitment list, On3 shows that there are five Bulldogs’ pledges who have the “defensive line” designation, which means they’re projected to play defensive tackle or nose tackle in college.

And according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), Georgia also leads for Fairburn (Ga.) Creekside’s Michai Boireau and Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei’s Aydin Breland, both of whom are 300-pound interior defensive lineman.

It certainly seems as if Notre Dame has put itself in a very interesting flip position to bolster its 2024 class.
