One of Notre Dame football’s top recruiting targets is set to come off the board Friday evening.

Charlotte (N.C.) Independence safety Nick Reddish will announce his college commitment at 5:30 p.m. ET at his high school. The Fighting Irish are one of four finalists for the On3 | Rivals No. 44 player in North Carolina and No. 57 safety nationally in the 2026 class.

Here’s what you need to know as one of the top defensive back prospects in the country prepares to make his decision.

Where will Nick Reddish commit?

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound defensive back is down to Notre Dame, Indiana, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin. Starting May 2, the three-star prospect took official visits to all four programs over a six-week stretch before entering decision mode.

Notre Dame is trending in the On3 | Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine, which gives the Irish a 92.3% chance to land his commitment. Three recruiting experts have forecasted that Reddish will pledge to Marcus Freeman’s program.

If the Irish win out, Reddish would join a defensive back group that already includes four four-star defensive back commits: Khary Adams (Towson, Md.), Joey O’Brien (Wyndmoor, Pa.), Ayden Pouncey (Winter Park, Fla.) and Chaston Smith (Knoxville, Tenn.).

Virginia Tech is viewed as the top challenger. Reddish’s brothers — Joseph and Quentin Reddish — currently play for the Hokies. Quentin is a sophomore safety, while Joseph, a junior cornerback, transferred from Wingate. Notre Dame did not offer scholarships to either sibling.

The Hokies also hold a commitment from Zaevion Cleveland, a three-star from Virginia Beach (Va.) Landstown who is the No. 60 safety in the class.

Reddish took two trips to Wisconsin during his recruitment, including an official visit the weekend of May 30. The Badgers currently have one safety committed in Zachary Taylor, a three-star from Fulshear (Texas) Katy Jordan.

Indiana was the first to host Reddish for an official visit on the weekend of May 2. The Hoosiers have three safeties committed: Walker Bryson (Rabun Gap, Ga.), Jamar Owens (Douglasville, Ga.) and Laron Dues (Sarasota, Fla.).

How to watch Nick Reddish’s commitment

Reddish will announce his decision on Friday, July 11, at 5:30 p.m. ET on YouTube. The four hats on the table will be Notre Dame, Indiana, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.

In addition to those programs, Reddish reported scholarship offers from 12 other Power Four schools. He also made unofficial visits to Duke, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Tennessee and N.C. State.

Reddish missed most of his junior season due to injury. As a sophomore, he totaled 95 tackles, 10 pass breakups, 4 interceptions, 4 fumble recoveries and 2 forced fumbles.
