Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco’s Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, who ranks as the No. 61 overall prospect and No. 6 linebacker in the nation according to the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, committed to Notre Dame over the summer over Ohio State and USC, a couple of programs that would love to flip him away from the Irish.

Irish head coach Marcus Freeman and director of recruiting Chad Bowden had an in-home visit with Viliamu-Asa Dec. 7, and coming out of the trip, it appears that the four-star recruit is firmly locked in with his decision.

Viliamu-Asa’s mother, Taliuta, has been interacting with college football fans — particularly those who follow the Fighting Irish — a good bit on Twitter lately. And she has not shied away from declaring which school her son will be signing with Dec. 20.

“His choice he made on July 23; it still stands and the world saw that,” she tweeted. “The decommitting chatter is just as good as fake news — don’t sweat the small stuff!! The chatter is just that, #GOIRISH, never pressured by the hype chatter!”

In another tweet, she said the following: “I can honestly say, I trust in my son’s methodical and logical approach to his decision. We 100 percent know him and know that he made the best decision for his future, and we are very proud him.”

Viliamu-Asa is expected to enroll at Notre Dame in January shortly after signing.

“We had a great time,” Taliuta tweeted about the home visit. “Great fun, food and fellowship. We are so vey excited that Kyngstonn will be in South Bend very soon and the opportunity for him to attend the University of Notre Dame. Let’s go!”

Viliamu-Asa had a monster season, posting 114 tackles (56 solo), 13 tackles for loss, 3 pass breakups, 1.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and an interception.

In late November, Prep Football Report analyst Tom Lemming named Viliamu-Asa one of five finalists for the Butkus Award. The award honors the top linebacker in high school football.

The Viliamu-Asa bio

Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa at Bellflower (California) St. John Bosco played on one of the most star-studded defenses in all of high school football in 2022. Yet, it was Viliamu-Asa that walked away with the highest postseason honors on a defense full of five- and four-star recruits. Viliamu-Asa was named the Southern Section All-CIF Defensive Player of the Year as a junior. He earned the recognition after making big play after big play, including against archrival Santa Ana Mater Dei. In a postseason matchup of California football juggernauts, Viliamu-Asa led the Broncos with 7.5 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks. He also had a key fumble recovery in the Open Division state title game against Serra. Viliamu-Asa finished 2022 with 111 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, two fumble and one interception. He missed the 2021 season because of an ACL injury that occurred in Bosco’s final spring game of the 2021 COVID-19 make up season.
