On Friday, Notre Dame flipped Salinas (Calif.) Palma class of 2024 wide receiver Logan Saldate away from his Oregon State commitment. He originally picked the Beavers over the likes of Arizona, Cal, Oklahoma State, Washington, Washington State and others.

The Irish started pursuing in the 5-11, 185-pounder after Warner Robins (Ga.) High’s Isiah Canion decommitted from the Irish a few weeks ago. Notre Dame inquired about a handful of rising senior wide receiver prospects, and Saldate impressed the Irish staff.

The coaches asked Saldate to run the entire route tree and a 40-yard dash and send in the video to them. Saldate showed off his athleticism, and his recorded 10.8 personal best in the 100-meter race and 24.5″ long jump impressed as well.

According to Notre Dame sources, the Irish staff believes that Saldate will enroll next summer as one of the best athletes on the roster already.

Saldate has quite the athletic family as well. His father, Jimmy, was a wrestler in high school, and his mother, Amy, ran track. It’s clear where Logan gets his speed and toughness.

Logan is the youngest of three. His older siblings are Chase and Macie.

Chase is a standout wrester at Michigan State who wrapped up his junior season in the spring. This writer can’t pretend to know much about college wrestling, but Chase has been outstanding through three season at MSU.

In the prep ranks at Gilroy (Calif.) High, Chase won the CIF State Wrestling Championship at 152 pounds and finished his senior year with a record of 53-0. He took his talents to East Lansing, Mich. and was the recipient of the MSU’s Outstanding Freshman Award.

Chase had a 26-10 overall record as a sophomore in 2021-22 and bested that number as a junior this past season. He finished the year 28-8 and reached the Round of 12 in the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.

He’s blown up as a social media star as well. Chase has just over 388,000 Tiktok followers and another 108,000 on Instagram.

Logan Saldate has extended family members who are college athletes as well. His cousin, Jourdan Soares, and uncle, Manuel Araiza, both played receiver at San Jose State. Another cousin, Spenser Soares, was a linebacker at Cabrillo College in Aptos, Calif.
