Former Notre Dame third baseman Joley Mitchell announced her intention to transfer to Texas on Tuesday.

Mitchell led the Irish in batting average at .382 and stolen bases with 15 this past season. Mitchell also provided power at the top of the lineup, launching 10 home runs in 2022. She has two years of eligibility remaining

“Joley will be a difference maker for us over the next two years,” Texas softball coach Mike White said in a press release. “She will be a consistent power threat who will hit for average and have the speed to steal bases as well. More importantly, though, she will add leadership to our program with her work ethic, desire to be the best and overall grit to get the job done.”

Texas is a softball powerhouse, and it’s about to join the best softball conference in the country. Under White, the Longhorns have made an NCAA Super Regional every season in which the tournament was held.

They made the Women’s College World Series Final last season, where they (like everyone else) were annihilated by Oklahoma, 16-1 and 10-5.

Quote of the day

“He’s great at learning from other coaches. He’s spent time from coast to coast learning from NFL coaches. He’s so intentional about those meetings and what he wants to get out of them. … I think that’s the difference. He always had that same interest but perhaps not as much of a focus as to what he wanted to accomplish with it. Now, very much he understands what to get out of it.”
