The Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team is headed to the national championship. After defeating No. 2 Virginia 13-12 in overtime Saturday, the No. 3 Fighting Irish advanced to play No. 1 Duke on Monday in the NCAA Tournament final.

The national championship game will occur at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia at 1 p.m. EDT on May 29. The game will be televised on ESPN.

The Irish punched their ticket to the championship for the third time in school history after Brian Tevlin scored the game-winning goal with 3:31 remaining in overtime. Eric Dobson led the way for the Irish with four goals and an assist. Jake Taylor, Pat Kavanagh and Jack Simmons scored twice each.

Monday is the first time Notre Dame has gone to the championship final since 2014. It also made it in 2010. The Irish fell to Duke both times: 11-9 in 2014 and 6-5 in overtime four years earlier. The Blue Devils have a 14-16 series advantage.

Earlier this season, Notre Dame defeated Duke 17-12 at home on April 8. Kavanagh had three goals and five assists in last month’s victory. Chris Kavanagh tacked on five goals, and Dobson contributed three goals and an assist.

Notre Dame is a 1.5-goal betting favorite for the national championship game, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
