Newsstand: Pair of Notre Dame pass catchers accept postseason all-star game invites
Two Notre Dame draft hopefuls will look to impress NFL scouts at a couple of postseason all-star games.
Irish wide receiver Malachi Fields will play in the Panini Senior Bowl on Jan. 31, 2026 in Mobile, Ala. He played one season for Notre Dame and caught 36 passes for 630 yards and 5 touchdowns. Fields, a former Virginia playmaker, has 16 career touchdown receptions.
Notre Dame’s Eli Raridon will look to continue a long trend of Irish starting tight ends being drafted at the next level. ESPN’s Mel Kiper views Raridon as tight end No. 5 in the upcoming NFL Draft.
On Jan. 27, 2026, Raridon will play in the East-West Shrine Bowl in Frisco, Texas.
The East-West Shrine Bowl is the longest-running college all-star football game in the nation. An important part of America’s football tradition, the event gives top college players a chance to showcase their talents to NFL scouts and a national television audience.
Raridon had a productive 2025 season, hauling in 32 receptions for 482 yards but was unlucky to not get into the end zone.

Notre Dame tweets of the day
Quote of the day
Raleigh (N.C.) Cardinal Gibbons cornerback Xavier Hasan on his decision to commit, via Rivals’ Chad Simmons:
“Notre Dame beat the other schools because of the academics, how they care for their players after football, and what they do as a program overall. The defensive backs they’ve developed — Leonard Moore, Benjamin Morrison, Kyle Hamilton and others — really stood out to me. Coach Mickens coached Sauce Gardner at Cincinnati too, so that was another big factor.
“Coach Mickens and Coach Freeman are great coaches, and Notre Dame is a great program. Coach Mickens and I built a strong relationship. Coach Freeman is a great guy. He leads the right way. As a head coach, he’s in his own category. He’s not always yelling or cursing; he cares about his players and knows how to teach, explain things, and connect.
“I told Notre Dame of my decision about two weeks ago. When I called Coach Mickens, it was a great moment. Coach Freeman was getting his hair cut when I told him, so that’s something I’ll definitely remember.”
