The stage is set for Notre Dame to try to win the ACC Baseball Championship for the first time ever. Pool pods for the tournament were released Saturday night at the conclusion of the regular season, and game times came out Sunday morning.

Notre Dame (33-13, 16-11 ACC) finished fourth in the regular season conference standings. The Fighting Irish had hopes of winning the conference crown for the second-straight year, but those were dashed with a loss at Miami in the first game of this weekend’s series. Making matters worse, Notre Dame went on to get throttled 16-7 in the series finale.

The Irish still stand at the top of their pool to begin the tournament, which starts Tuesday at Truist Field in Charlotte, N.C. Notre Dame does not play until 3 p.m. ET Thursday against Florida State. The Irish will then take on Virginia at 11 a.m. Friday. Both games can be streamed on ACCNX. Tickets are available via CharlotteKnights.com or by calling 704-0274-8282.

Here’s a look at the pool play pods.

Pool A

No. 1 seed Virginia Tech (40-11, 19-9)

No. 8 seed North Carolina (34-19, 15-15)

No. 12 seed Clemson (35-21, 13-16)

Pool B

No. 2 seed Louisville (38-16-1, 18-11-1)

No. 7 seed Georgia Tech (33-21, 15-15)

No. 11 seed Pitt (27-26, 13-16)

Pool C

No. 3 seed Miami (39-16, 20-10)

No. 6 seed Wake Forest (39-16-1, 15-14-1)

No. 10 seed NC State (33-20, 14-15)

Pool D

No. 4 seed Notre Dame (33-13, 16-11)

No. 5 seed Virginia (38-15, 17-13)

No. 9 seed Florida State (32-12, 15-15)

All the teams in each pod will play each other once. The four teams with the best records will advance to Saturday’s semifinals. Tiebreakers are determined by seeding. So, for example, if Notre Dame and Virginia both go 1-1, Notre Dame will advance to the semifinals. The winners of those two games will play Sunday in the ACC Championship Game. Saturday’s semifinals (1 p.m. and 5 p.m.) will be broadcasted nationally on ACC Network. ESPN2 will carry Sunday’s title game (noon).

Notre Dame did not play against Virginia during the regular season. The Irish swept Florida State in Tallahassee at the beginning of April. After winning the regular season ACC Championship last season, Notre Dame beat Virginia Tech 8-0 in the opening game of pool play before getting eliminated by Virginia in a lopsided 14-1 defeat.

Revenge could be in the offing for the Irish this year. Should the Irish advance through Pool D, they will take on the winner of Pool A in Saturday’s semifinals. Notre Dame lost its only game against Virginia Tech in March before the final two games of the series were canceled due to inclement weather in South Bend.
