On Monday, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart met with the media and was asked about his starting quarterback’s status ahead of next Wednesday’s Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame.

“The only thing I can update is they are still going through those deliberations in terms of decision-making process time and all those decisions they have to make as a family,” Smart said about Carson Beck, according to DawgsHQ.

And on Monday evening, those deliberations concluded. Beck’s season is over. Georgia confirmed reports that the quarterback will miss the Bulldogs’ playoff run after he underwent surgery to repair an elbow injury sustained in the SEC Championship earlier this month against Texas.

“Georgia quarterback Carson Beck underwent successful surgery Monday on his right elbow to repair his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL), performed by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, Ca,” the statement from UGA shared. “A full recovery is expected with throwing to begin spring of 2025.”

Third-year quarterback Gunner Stockton will take the reigns moving forward for Georgia. He finished the SEC Championship game 12-of-16 for 71 yards, also adding a threat with his ability to scrambling gaining 27 yards on the ground as well.

Notre Dame and Georgia will clash Jan. 1 at 8:45 p.m. ET in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoffs.

Quote of the day

“You can’t replace Rylie Mills. I mean, yes, the production, but the leadership, a captain, very similar to the things I said about Benjamin Morrison when he was out. You feel awful for him as a person, a guy that decided to come back, improve his draft stock, be a captain.

“The value he provided this team is tremendous, and he’s done an excellent job as a football player and a leader, but you have to replace the production. You got to replace what he did for our defense in different ways, and so we have capable guys that will step up, that have stepped up all year, that we’re very confident in, and those guys will have a bigger role this week.”
