Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa added another accolade to his high school résumé on Sunday. The Los Angeles Times named the Notre Dame football 2024 class linebacker commit their football player of the year.

As a senior, the 6-foot-2, 235-pound Viliamu-Asa achieved the best season of his high school football career. Viliamu-Asa, a four-star recruit ranked within the top 65 overall players nationally, registered 114 tackles (56 solo) for Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco.

The Bosco Braves finished their 2023 campaign 11-2, losing to rival school Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei in the California/Southern Section Division I playoffs championship. Viliamu-Asa also added 13 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 3 pass breakups, an interception and a fumble recovery.

Viliamu-Asa is the No. 62 overall player, No. 6 linebacker nationally and No. 5 prospect in California, per the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

“He’s one of the best football players in my 21 years as a head coach,” Bosco coach Jason Negro told the LA Times. “His intelligence is the No. 1 thing. His ability to understand the position and his relentless pursuit to the football is beyond my imagination how someone can play that well.”

Viliamu-Asa verbally committed to Notre Dame over Ohio State and Southern California on July 23. He also had 23 other Power Five scholarship offers.

The Fighting Irish expect Viliamu-Asa to officially sign with the program when Wednesday’s early signing window opens. He also intends to enroll early at Notre Dame in January.
