Hayward (Calif.) Tennyson’s Taeshaun Lyons, the No. 355 overall prospect and No. 50 wide receiver per the 2023 On3 Consensus, picked up an offer from Notre Dame Aug. 9, and Blue & Gold logged a prediction for him to eventually choose the Irish the following day.

Lyons’ contact with the Notre Dame staff has been steady over the past few weeks, and he set up an official visit with the Fighting Irish this week and announced it on social media Wednesday. Lyons will take in South Bend the weekend of Sept. 17 when the Irish battle California.

It’s a good step for Notre Dame in its quest to land the four-star wide receiver.

“The culture and how they go about teaching and growing,” Lyons told Blue & Gold Wednesday when asked what he’s looking forward to seeing on his official visit. “Also, how they want to use me, the facilities and plans for life after football and the school.”

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), the Irish are in the lead for him at 97.5 percent. Other programs are turning up the heat on Lyons and may dish out a scholarship to him. Michigan State offered him this week already and more could be on the way. He’s off to a good start as a senior, scoring three touchdowns last Friday.

Lyons has interesting family ties to Notre Dame.

“One of my cousins, Tariq Bracy, goes there right now, and I have another family friend who ran track there (Taylor Craft) and she graduated from Notre Dame,” Lyons previously informed Blue & Gold.

On3 is higher on Lyons than the industry average, listing him as the nation’s No. 191 overall prospect and No. 28 wide receiver. No other outlet has him ranked as a four-star prospect.

Lyons On3 scouting summary

Wiry wideout with super smooth movement patterns and big-play ability. Has a thin frame, measuring at over 6-foot-2 and around 160 pounds prior to his senior season. Registers as a good athlete, running an 11.03 second 100 meter time in addition to a 4.64 electronically-timed 40-yard dash as a junior. Dominates average to subpar competition on Friday nights. Accounted for 955 yards and 16 touchdowns on just 31 catches as a junior. A threat to score every time he touches the ball at the high school level. A naturally smooth mover and has advanced routes and on-field change of direction at this stage. Shows the ability to separate within his routes in the camp setting. Ball skills are not a question, but can struggle with finishing through contact due to his relative lack of strength. Will need to continue adding mass at the college level.
