There is still nearly four months left until the start of the 2022 college football season, but if Notre Dame supporters needed something to make it feel a little closer they got it Wednesday. FanDuel released point spreads for several games, including three Fighting Irish matchups.

The popular sports betting site put out the following lines including the Irish:

Notre Dame at Ohio State (Sept. 3): Ohio State -13.5

Cal at Notre Dame (Sept. 17): Notre Dame -17.5

Notre Dame at BYU* (Oct. 8): Notre Dame -9

* Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas as part of the Shamrock Series

Translation: Ohio State is expected to be really, really good, and it’s going to be tough for Notre Dame, with a first-year head coach and first-time starting quarterback, to compete with the Buckeyes at the Horseshoe in an opening weekend clash of two of the biggest brands in the game. Cal isn’t supposed to be much of a threat, and oddsmakers favor the Irish in a neutral site meeting against a foe that hasn’t beaten Notre Dame in its last three tries.

Much can change between now and September — including these point spreads. But for now, Irish fans have a little indicator of how Vegas is prognosticating two of the biggest games on the 2022 schedule plus one of the six home games.

Notre Dame quote of the day

“We got on the practice field and it was full speed. Taking snaps full speed. Walk throughs, everybody is intense. We’re calling audibles like it was a game. To me, that sets the tone. Talented players who are unselfish set the example in the building of what it’s going to take to be a Notre Dame football player.”
