Notre Dame in the NFL, Week 3: Kyle Hamilton forced fumble helps Ravens beat Patriots

The fourth quarter in former Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton’s third NFL game was one to remember in a good way. Unlike a week before.

Two Hamilton coverage missteps were at the center of the Baltimore Ravens’ 42-38 Week 2 loss to the Miami Dolphins, in which they blew a 21-point lead. In the same position at New England one week later, though, Hamilton helped the Ravens preserve a win simply because of hustle.

The Patriots trailed Baltimore 31-26 when they began a fourth-quarter drive at their own 29-yard line. A third-and-6 pass to wide receiver Nelson Agholor was more than enough for a conversion. Agholor motored inside the Ravens’ 40 after the catch.

Hamilton chased him down from behind, though, and punched the ball free. Cornerback Marcus Peters recovered, and the Ravens scored a touchdown on the ensuing possession and won 37-26.

“Obviously, [he] had a learning experience the week before, as a lot of young guys did and do, especially on the back end,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh told reporters Monday. “He worked hard all week, he had a sense of urgency to try to become a little bit better of a player this week than he was last week. … To see him come up and make that play in that critical moment, was kind of a reward for that. That’s a play that not too many people make.

“Kyle let out a little primordial scream on the sideline there after that, so I think that was a good moment for him.”

Here’s a roundup of how Hamilton and the more than 40 other former Notre Dame players with NFL teams fared in Week 3 of the 2022 season.
