In order for Notre Dame to win a national championship, a big-time quarterback will be needed. Could Detroit Martin Luther King’s Dante Moore be that guy for the Irish?

While it’s just at a 55 percent confidence level, I’ve logged an On3 prediction for Moore to choose Notre Dame.

Ranked as the nation’s No. 17 player and No. 4 quarterback according to the 2023 On3 Consensus, Moore is a big-time talent who the Fighting Irish staff has been recruiting hard since offering him on St. Patrick’s Day last year.

Since becoming head coach of Notre Dame, Marcus Freeman has become more involved in this recruitment, and offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tommy Rees has led the charge and has built a close connection with Moore in the past 11 months.

“I am talking a lot more with Coach Freeman, and I have always talked a lot with coach Tommy Rees,” Moore told On3’s Chad Simmons. “Me and Coach Rees talk ball, life, and we have had a strong bond for over a year. Now, me and Coach Freeman are chatting it up more, and I think he can do a great job.”

Before logging my prediction, Michigan was the leader according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine for Moore at 41.9 percent. However, Moore stated that former Wolverines’ offensive coordinator Josh Gattis’ move to Miami impacted him because of their close relationship, and he’s now considering the Hurricanes more with that move.

The On3 RPM puts Notre Dame in the lead at 73.1 percent, while Michigan has the second best odds at 15.2 percent.

Michigan State landed a quarterback commitment from Austin (Texas) Lake Travis’ Bo Edmundson, and it feels like that has a negative impact on the Spartans’ chances with Moore. Penn State is also a factor, but does not seem to be a major one.

Brian Kelly and LSU are making a run at Moore, as are UCLA, Arkansas, Texas Tech and others, but the feeling is as of Feb. 18, Notre Dame has the lead for Moore.

This is more of a projection pick of what I believe will eventually happen; I don’t foresee Moore announcing any major news for a few more months.

“I don’t really have any idea when I will cut my list down or commit yet, but I am most likely to commit before the season,” Moore said. “I am still taking everything in, talking to a lot of schools every day, and trying to enjoy everything.

If Moore does choose Notre Dame, he will be the highest ranked quarterback prospect to pick Notre Dame since Dayne Christ (No. 13 nationally) back in the 2008 recruiting class.

Moore has an NIL Valuation of $39,000, which ranks No. 102 in the high school football NIL rankings. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
