Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players and Ohio State coaches and staff members themselves. Today we’re joined by 2022 signee Devin Brown.

COLUMBUS — Devin Brown turned out to be somewhat prophetic during a late November conversation with Lettermen Row.

The four-star quarterback prospect had just completed his first, and only, visit to Ohio State. The talk about quarterback depth at Ohio State was hard to ignore despite his interest in the Buckeyes. Rather than ignoring it, Devin Brown addressed it head on.

“It’s going to happen at every school. There’s going to be competition at every school and I’m not scared to compete,” Brown said. “And with the new transfer portal rules and guys not wanting to sit out everything is going to be so different in the next year.

“[Ohio State] gave me their thoughts on it and let me sit in on the quarterbacks room. At the end of the day, it’s got to about where is the best fit for me and I’ll go in and work for whatever I want.”

That mentality paid off for both Devin Brown and Ohio State. Just days after that interview, Buckeyes redshirt freshman Jack Miller announced he was transferring. Two days after Brown committed to the Buckeyes, Quinn Ewers did the same.

Now, just about five weeks after first stepping foot in Columbus, enrollment is approaching for Brown. He arrives for classes at Ohio State in two weeks. Then he’ll begin his work toward playing time for the Buckeyes.

What was it that ultimately sold Devin Brown on Ohio State? How has he handled the adjustment of entering the Buckeyes recruiting class so late? Why does he credit Joe Germaine for so much of his development as a quarterback?

The young quarterback joined Birminology to talk about those things and more before he heads to Ohio State next month.
