COLUMBUS — The first offseason domino has fallen for Ohio State: Jack Miller is entering the transfer portal.

The former four-star quarterback had fallen down the depth chart after losing the battle to start for the Buckeyes, slipping to third in the pecking order and then getting suspended late in the season after an off-the-field incident.

Miller appeared in four games with the Buckeyes this season, and he will have all of his eligibility left for his next program despite spending two years with Ohio State.

“I would like to thank everyone for accepting me since the first day I thought about coming to Ohio State,” Jack Miller posted on Twitter on Sunday night. “I have decided to leave Ohio State and look at opportunities available to me to play the game I love. I will always love my brothers and my coaches and wish them great success.

“But for me it is time to get on the field. The coaches have prepared me to face the future head on and with confidence.”

The path to playing time with the Buckeyes was a steep climb for Miller after getting out-dueled by both C.J. Stroud and Kyle McCord on the practice field. And the arrival of five-star freshman Quinn Ewers combined with his untimely suspension made it even more clear that Miller wasn’t going to have a role with Ohio State moving forward.

Miller certainly impressed with his arm talent as a recruit, and he did enough as a passer and underrated athlete to make himself a legitimate option to start for the Buckeyes heading into spring practice in March. But he wasn’t able to keep pace by the time training camp started, and it was always clear that Ohio State wouldn’t be able to keep all four quarterbacks on the roster after this year.

Jack Miller was able to figure out what that meant for him. Now he’s officially moving on from Ohio State.
