COLUMBUS — Ohio State is adding to its impressive defensive back class: Kayin Lee has committed to the Buckeyes.

Lee made his announcement on social media Monday evening, ending a recruitment the Buckeyes took the lead in and never relinquished it. The Cedar Grove (Ellenwood, Georgia) defensive back chose Ohio State over Nebraska, Oregon and Georgia. The four-star cornerback is the No. 9 cornerback in the country and No. 5 player in the state of Georgia, according to the On3 rankings.

Lee joins four-star cornerback Dijon Johnson as Ohio State cornerback commitments, and he is the first player from the Peach State to join the Buckeyes class of 2023. Ohio State now has 14 commitments in its class that seems to be filling up quickly, especially after the massive visit weekends in June.

Kayin Lee was impressive during his camp visit last year at Ohio State, and he has continued to trend upward since then, picking up offers from every major program and wowing experts at the OT7 in Las Vegas a few weeks ago.

Following official visits to Oregon and Nebraska, Lee made it known how much he likes the Buckeyes staff, especially after the coaching changes made this offseason.

“It was a good change. I liked the old staff, but I think this one might be better,” Lee told On3 in June before his Ohio State visit. “With Tim Walton, he’s been in the league. [Perry] Eliano, he’s talking about putting me in the league like with Jalen Ramsey. I feel like I can put my trust in them to put me in the same place as those guys.”

With a new staff in place, the Buckeyes hosted Lee for his official visit. That certainly went well, and Lee is now in the fold. And the Ohio State defensive back class is gaining one of its top-of-the-board targets.

On3 scouting report is high on Kayin Lee

The folks at On3 are quite high on Kayin Lee. Here’s what they had to say about him:

Highly instinctive cornerback who is one of the more productive and accomplished defensive prospects in the state of Georgia. Has some of the best ball production among defensive backs in the 2023 cycle. Picked off seven passes while helping his team to a state title as a junior. A savvy, instinctive corner who reads quarterbacks and breaks on the ball. Capable of recognizing route patterns. Freelances off of his man to make plays. Has a thinner frame at around 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, but plays above his weight as a run and cover down defender. Strikes and drives through ball carriers. Lacks some high-end measurables for the position with a thinner build and solid, but not great athleticism for the position.
