Buckeyes already facing big roster decisions, early Cotton Bowl preview

COLUMBUS — Ohio State running back Evan Pryor told On3 on Sunday that he’ll enter the transfer portal. Pryor will have three years of eligibility remaining to play elsewhere.

Pryor committed to Ohio State as part of the loaded 2021 recruiting class. He was the No. 92 overall player in his class, and he was the No. 6 running back and the No. 5 player in the state of North Carolina.

Pryor told this to On3 in the announcement:

First and foremost, I would like to thank God for the opportunity to play at the college level. Secondly, I would like to thank Coach Ryan Day, Coach Tony Alford, and Kevin Wilson for recruiting me to play here at The Ohio State University. I would like to thank my teammates for a lifetime of brotherhood and friendships, as well as the coaches and training staff who have supported me through all my years. With that being said, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with 3 years of eligibility remaining.

Thank you God.

Pryor was on the cusp of breaking out in the spring and offseason of 2022 before a bad knee injury sidelined him for an entire season. He came back healthy this offseason but couldn’t quite get back to the same level he was previously at, and he was stuck on the Buckeyes depth chart.

Now he’ll have three years to find success elsewhere. Evan Pryor is leaving Ohio State.

ICYMI: Ohio State facing Missouri in Cotton Bowl

Ohio State would much rather be in the College Football Playoff field. The Buckeyes clearly state beating Michigan, winning the Big Ten and getting a chance to compete for a national title as their three goals every year.

They went 0-3 this season, but there is still a consolation prize for an 11-1 Ohio State team that still has a case to be one of the best teams in the country, just with one loss on the road to a fellow elite team.

Now that the Buckeyes are out of the College Football Playoff, they’re off to a New Year’s Six bowl game. They have been in either a BCS game, the CFP or a New Year’s Six bowl every year since 2013. This time, they’re heading to the Cotton Bowl to take on No. 9 Missouri on Dec. 29 at 8 p.m. It’ll be played at AT&T Stadium.
