COLUMBUS — Ohio State is starting over on the offensive line: Position coach Greg Studrawa will not return to the program.

The gravelly-voiced, good-natured Studrawa spent the last six seasons with the Buckeyes, going through both highs and lows before ultimately seeing his run come to a close on Saturday in the Rose Bowl.

Multiple sources with direct knowledge of the situation confirmed to Lettermen Row on Thursday morning that Studrawa had been fired and that Ohio State would be in the market for a new offensive line coach during an already-busy offseason.

Studrawa had previously dealt with health issues that required back surgery earlier in the season, and it was thought that he might elect to retire following the win last weekend over Utah. Ohio State has not publicly confirmed the exact details of the parting, but one way or another it is happening.

“It was a hard time for him,” Ryan Day said in September. “He’s kind of back in the building now, getting back into it, but give him a lot of credit. His guys played hard in his absence, and now that we’re getting him back in the building again, I think we’re going to build even more chemistry.”

That formula will no longer work for Ohio State heading into a key offseason, apparently. And despite winning a handful of Big Ten titles while Studrawa was developing Rimington Trophy-winning centers, the level of play dipped last season with the Buckeyes struggling to run the football in short-yardage situations and getting dominated in the trenches against Michigan.

There had also been lingering concerns about his ability as a high-end recruiter, and it seems as if Ohio State finally came to a tipping point.

So, Greg Studrawa is no longer a member of the coaching staff with the Buckeyes moving forward.
