COLUMBUS — Ohio State already knew it was going dancing.

Kevin McGuff and the Buckeyes now know their path to the Final Four after falling in the Elite Eight of the tournament last spring.

Ohio State is officially a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes are in the Portland Regional, and they’ll host the first- and second-round matchups. They’ll play No. 15 seed Maine — with the winner advancing to play the winner of No. 7 seed Duke and No. 10 seed Richmond.

The Buckeyes won the Big Ten regular season title thanks to a 25-4 record — including a 16-2 conference record. That resume put the Buckeyes in position to potentially grab a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. But just a few days after losing in the regular-season finale at Iowa — their first loss since Dec. 30, the Buckeyes Big Ten Tournament run was cut as short as it could be; they lost to Maryland in a stunning quarterfinal upset. Iowa went on to win the Big Ten title, and now the Hawkeyes have earned a top seed in the NCAA Tournament, while Ohio State got a No. 2 seed.

The Portland Region, which the Buckeyes are in, features No. 1 seed USC. The Trojans are led by star freshman Juju Watkins. That region also features No. 3 seed UConn, one of the most storied programs in the sport, and No. 4 seed Virginia Tech. The Hokies beat the Buckeyes in the Elite Eight last season to advance to the Final Four.

The Buckeyes head into the tournament on a stunning two-game losing streak following a run of 15 straight wins to open the 2024 calendar year.

The first round of the tournament will take place March 22 and 23. The Final Four is in Cleveland this year; those two games will be played April 5.
