Walk-on center Toby Wilson on rise, loses black stripe

Ohio State has a loaded offensive line. One of its reserves is adding to the depth of it.

Walk-on true freshman center Toby Wilson lost his black stripe this week, a sign that he’s officially a part of the program. The son of Buckeyes offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, Toby Wilson has impressed during his first season with the Buckeyes.

After earning reps as the backup center in blowout games early in the season, Wilson has earned the removal of his black stripe.

“He’s a coach’s kid,” Ohio State offensive line coach Greg Studrawa said. “You know that’s that’s the first thing I can say: he’s been around the game. He’s grown up in the game. We’ve had injuries with with the rest of the backup centers. And Toby’s played the position. So we put him in there, and he’s continued to grow and grow and grow.

“He’s doing a great job. He’s earned where he is. And he’s playing pretty well. … So I think he’ll continue to grow and get better and work hard.”

As he continues to improve, Wilson has a chance to be the next walk-on to become a key contributor for the Buckeyes.

Lettermen Live hosted by Roosters

Can Ohio State pick up where it left off after three consecutive thoroughly impressive wins prior to the idle week? That’s what the Lettermen Row crew broke down on Monday in the latest episode of Lettermen Live hosted by Roosters.

Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward is joined by former Buckeyes linebacker Bobby Carpenter, former Ohio State quarterback Justin Zwick, Nicole Cox of Roosters and Lettermen Row director of recruiting Jeremy Birmingham to analyze the first half of the Buckeyes season and what lies ahead over the next two-plus months.

The crew hands out its midseason awards to the Buckeyes offensive and defensive players who have impressed them the most, and they hit on some of the Ohio State coaches who have stood out through the first seven weeks.

You won’t want to those discussions and much more in the latest episode of Lettermen Live hosted by Roosters.

As always, Lettermen Live is hosted by Roosters on Olentangy River Road in Columbus.
