Shaun Wade traded in midst of first NFL preseason

Shaun Wade proved during his time at Ohio State and in the preseason that he can be a valuable cornerback in the slot.

But after being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round of the NFL draft in the spring, Wade is already on the move. He was traded Thursday to the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2022 seventh-round pick and a 2023 fifth-round pick.

Wade was making plays in the preseason and throughout training camp, but the Ravens have a logjam in the secondary.

The Patriots now have Wade as a low-risk player who could bolster their defense — just like he helped the Buckeyes for the last three seasons.

Ohio State receivers have high praise for C.J. Stroud

Ohio State has the top group of wide receivers in the country. The Buckeyes talent at the position will help C.J. Stroud as he prepares for his first start next week at Minnesota.

But that works both ways, and with Stroud’s talent, he elevates the loaded receivers for the Buckeyes. They’re all confident in their new quarterback’s ability.

Lettermen Row’s Austin Ward has more:

The Buckeyes becoming even more prolific at receiver might be hard to imagine — both because they were already among the elite in the country with Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson terrorizing secondaries and because the last quarterback was a first-round NFL Draft pick.

Justin Fields obviously leaves big shoes behind for Stroud to fill. But he also left a pair of gifted weapons, a blossoming superstar in the slot in Jaxon Smith-Njigba, two other five-star targets and a true freshman with Hall of Fame genetics. All of them can help ease the transition for a redshirt freshman at the most important position on the Ohio State roster. But Stroud has also spent this year offering reminders of why he was a five-star prospect as well.
