The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2025 Oklahoma football season. Everybody wants to forget about 2024 and move forward.

Head coach Brent Venables and staff have attempted to do that. New face calling the offense (Ben Arbuckle). Venables calling the defense, it’s now or never for this regime at OU in the SEC. No beating around the bush.

Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Crimson Countdown: No. 54 Febechi Nwaiwu

2024 stats: Started, played all 13 games at right guard

2025 outlook:

Think everybody thought Nwaiwu would just walk into Norman and start dominating. He did start every game for OU last season, but we all know it was rough sledding for a good portion of the year.

So now in year No. 2 with the Sooners, you should expect a nice leap from Nwaiwu. You would say that across the board with the OU offensive line, but Nwaiwu should be someone who is not just a starter by default but because of how good he is.

He’s got a couple of jobs in front of him. First, you know he wants to remain the starter and continue to show everybody what he can do. But second? Nwaiwu is going to be that guy bringing up the younger players. That’s a real role for him in 2025.

You can tell physically that Nwaiwu is in a much better place heading into preseason camp. We’ll see if that translates to everything else that comes along with his game.

2025 interior offensive linemen outlook

This is one of the positions on the roster that seems to have plenty of bodies and talent but what remains is a lot of interest over who will be in the rotation. At right guard and center the Sooners return maybe the line’s two most clear starters in Febechi Nwaiwu and Troy Everett, respectively. However, there is competition chasing both including transfer Jake Maikkula and incoming standout freshman Ryan Fodje. On the left side Heath Ozaeta missed spring practice while recovering from a shoulder injury. The name to keep an eye on as a big riser is redshirt freshman Eddy Pierre-Louis.
